A healthy banana shake?  I know that had to go through your mind right?  How can a shake be healthy?  You ready for my secret?  It's frozen bananas in place of ice cream.  I am so loving this! If you freeze bananas and place it in a blender or food processor it has the same consistency as ice cream and tastes like it too.

I have determined though that I think it is a better fake out for a banana shake then just ice cream.  I can tell the difference as ice cream but seriously can't as a shake.  I am so excited I can have a shake for breakfast! If you want to add protein to this whey protein would be great because it will just make it taste even more like ice cream (whey is milk based protein), but you could also use a vegan based vanilla protein powder.

If your a reader you know I am obsessed with desserts that taste like they have to be bad but are so good for you you can have as much dessert as you want.  If your new check out my healthy desserts for more fun recipes.

Healthy Vegan Banana "Milkshake"
(makes one glass)

2 frozen bananas cut into 1 inch chunks
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2- 3/4 cup of original coconut milk (available next to soy milk  in most stores) or learn how to make your own here.  You could also sub cashew milk, or almond.

1. peel two regular sized ripe bananas and cut into 1 inch sections and place in the freezer in a plastic or wax lined paper bag (that's what I used) and freeze for several hrs or the night before
2. Place 1/2 cup of coconut milk in the blender and 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract with a few of the frozen banana chunks and blend.  Keep adding banana chunks a few at a time until they are all blended.  Add more coconut milk at the end if it is too thick (extra bonus is it helps clean out your blender if you add a little milk to it after you have poured out your mixture).
