Bass Family's Criminal Veggie Garden |
So here's the synopsis: The Bass family of Oak Park, MI had their front yard torn up due to sewer line work, so instead of planting grass again they decided to put in raised beds and grow veggies. One of their neighbors complained about the appearance of their yard and the city warned them to move the veggies to their backyard claiming veggies in the front yard because it is not "suitable" front yard plants. Meaning it is not typical for people to grow veggies in their front yard therefore they cannot. They refused (I would have too), and when they didn't they we're ticketed and now they are charged with a misdemeanor and if found guilty face up to 93 days in jail.

Reason 1: Inflation. With inflation likely to start to soar (when the Federal Reserve keeps printing money to pay our debts, which it is, the result is higher inflation. Many experts in economics believe we are in a state of perpetual QE (quantitive easing)), and many families struggling due to the economy many people will not be able to afford organic vegetables.
Reason 2: Control of quality of your vegetables. Now that crops like corn, soy, and canola are almost all GMO their is a high likely hood that they can cross bread with local organic heirloom seed crops. Some people believe that we are being sprayed with chemicals by airplanes. It is called geo-engineering and the thought by spraying chemicals into the atmosphere via airplanes we can help stop global warming. Is this really happening? I don't know. But I have found some interesting reports and workshops on the CFR (council of foreign relations) website that I urge you to read. All I know is that if it is happening it would be sprayed on your organic veggies. At least if you are growing it yourself you know if you often see chem trails in the air, or can test what is in your soil that you are using to grow your veggies, or grow it in a greenhouse.
Reason 3: Can't get more local then your yard! Benefits of going local, less gas used to transport (in this case none! plus no gas used going to the grocery store), freshness (can't get more fresh then just picked!).
Fellow blogger April Alexander quoted Thomas Jefferson in her post about this story and I found it quite fitting, "If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny." This is the government controlling what we eat. And unfortunately this is only one example of many ways that I have heard recently. Some examples include: raiding the Amish for selling raw milk, and the FDA is currently considering regulating vitamins (but only natural vitamins not chemically formed synthetic vitamins). I'll write a more in depth post on this soon, but basically it will most likely will prevent most people from being able to have natural supplements. I also just recently read an article about a child facing fines for having lemonade stand. Where does it end? Will we lose our right to chose we eat? I hope not. But I think we need to be aware of what is going on and inform others and let our voices be heard in hopes that we will not lose our god given right to chose what we eat.
